1.Learn the text 2.Apply the text 3.Build off the text
With these three objectives in mind, which we are calling the “LAB Technique." It is our goal to always be honest with the text in every way, by looking not only at what the writer had to say, but also why he said it, to whom it was said, and what it meant to them.
Section 1, Learn:
This section will cover the exegesis of the chapter that is being covered. This section of the study is designed to go through the text in a verse-by-verse fashion, identifying key words, phrases, and verses. Every word in each verse is important because it gives you the mean- ing of what is being said. As we all know well, the context of a verse is everything. As we seek a deeper understanding of key words, we will turn to the original language in which the Scriptures were written. Those languages consist of Hebrew, Aramaic, and Koine Greek. Within this section Denny Petrillo will be leading in the exegesis.
Section 2, Apply:
This section of each chapter will be take what we have learned in section 1 of the exegesis and make application to our everyday lives. While the exegesis of the passage is of the upmost importance, the application is vastly important as well. You can be a person who knows the Bible from front to back and have every word memorized, but if you aren’t able to apply what you have learned, you have fallen short of what really matters. To apply the text is to grow from the text. It means that I realize the right way to live, love, and submit myself, and now I want to do it. Paul wrote in Roman 12:2, “And do not be conformed to thisworld, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.” The transformation of the heart is due to the realization that I must change. The Word is what tells me I need to change and how I need to change. Therefore, we have designated the application portion of each chapter to be vitally important to the learning of each passage. Within this section Joe Wells will be directing our thoughts on exactly how we can apply each passage to our lives.
Section 3, Build:
This third and final section of each chapter will be dealing with “faith builders.” At this point we have studied the passage exegetically, made application of the text to our lives, and now we will be looking for different ways to build our faith from the text itself. I can’t get to Heaven on someone else’s faith, just like I can’t get to the movies on someone else’s tank of gas. I have to have my own faith to get there. When I have my own faith, which is rooted in the Word of God, I can then share it! I share it with my wife, my children, the brethren, and the world. A strong faith can do all things, because the faithful trust in God. Both Garrett Bernethy and Billy Claybaugh will be directing our thoughts in the building sessions of each chapter.
